Your Mission as a Mechanical Commissioning Lead
As the Mechanical Commissioning Lead, your primary mission is to oversee and execute the pre-commissioning and commissioning phases for critical mechanical systems within large-scale Oil and Gas EPC projects. Working closely with the Commissioning Manager, you will ensure smooth operations and efficient completion, contributing to the successful handover of projects. Your role will be pivotal in upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and functionality throughout all phases.
You Will Be Handling These Duties and Responsibilities as Mechanical Commissioning Lead
- Lead all phases of the EPC project lifecycle, with a strong focus on technical writing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities for Oil and Gas projects.
- Coordinate with the Commissioning Manager to set achievable milestones and track deadlines for each phase of commissioning.
- Oversee pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for mechanical systems, including both rotating equipment (e.g., pumps, compressors, air-cooled heat exchangers) and static equipment (e.g., vessels, columns), as well as process packages such as flare, fuel gas treatment, and water bath heaters.
- Manage key mechanical commissioning tasks, including oil flushing, purging, inerting, air blowing, leak testing, flange management, chemical cleaning, and vessel inspection.
- Develop and finalize essential commissioning deliverables, including systemization documents, commissioning mark-ups, and handover procedures.
- Direct and oversee commissioning of utilities systems such as PA/IA/N2 packages, emergency diesel generators, chemical injection systems, water treatment packages, and firewater systems.
- Ensure rigorous adherence to HSE protocols, PTW (Permit to Work), and LOTO (Lock Out, Tag Out) procedures from pre-commissioning through operational start-up.
- Maintain active communication with clients for approvals, attend client meetings, and address any commissioning-related issues.
- Support project planning by producing and managing schedules that accurately reflect sequencing and duration of commissioning activities.
- Track and manage project documentation, including Technical Document Registers, ensuring all documents meet review and approval timelines.
- Identify and resolve mechanical-piping issues throughout the project, maintaining lists of outstanding needs, holds, and vendor deliverables, with consistent follow-up to drive project efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills That Will Allow You to Thrive as Mechanical Commissioning Lead
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Extensive experience in Mechanical Commissioning within the Oil and Gas industry, ideally with expertise in EPC projects.
- Technical Skills: Skilled in functional testing of mechanical equipment such as pumps, generators, vessels, HVAC systems, and safety equipment (e.g., lifeboats, cranes).
- Mechanical Knowledge: Proficient in mechanical-piping systems, valve operations, and fire safety systems.
- Safety Commitment: Strong knowledge of and adherence to HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) practices.
- Analytical Abilities: Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Interpersonal Skills: Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, capable of working in cross-functional teams.
- Organizational Skills: Highly organized, with extensive experience managing project timelines and documentation processes.
- Project Management: Familiar with project management methodologies, able to lead tasks efficiently and deliver results.
