Your Mission as an Accounting Lecturer
As an Accounting Lecturer at SMU, you will deliver interactive and engaging instruction in areas such as financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, taxation, and accounting information systems. You will work to equip students with technical expertise and a critical understanding of the evolving accounting profession, integrating real-world case studies, modern financial tools, and ethical considerations. Alongside lecturing, you will mentor aspiring accountants, enhance the accounting curriculum, contribute to research activities, and help ensure SMU’s accounting programmes meet international standards and industry needs.
You Will Be Handling These Duties and Responsibilities as an Accounting Lecturer
- Deliver clear and dynamic lectures, seminars, tutorials, and hands-on workshops for undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in accounting and finance.
- Develop, review, and update teaching materials, exam papers, and digital resources that reflect the latest trends in accountancy, global financial regulations, and professional ethics.
- Supervise and guide students conducting accounting projects, research, case analyses, and group assignments aligned with current industry practices.
- Promote an inclusive, supportive classroom environment that embraces equity, diversity, and accessibility for all learners.
- Participate in departmental meetings, contribute to accounting curriculum development, programme reviews, and university events specific to the finance and accounting faculty.
- Engage in collaborative research projects, contribute to knowledge exchange with the professional accounting community, and pursue partnerships with relevant businesses or organisations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of international accounting standards, digital accounting tools, and innovative teaching methodologies.
Qualifications and Skills that will allow you to thrive as an Accounting Lecturer
- A Master’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field. Progress towards a doctorate or recognised professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CA) is considered advantageous.
- Strong expertise in financial reporting, management accounting, auditing, taxation, or related accounting disciplines.
- Prior experience teaching, training, or coaching within academic, corporate, or professional settings. Previous university-level teaching is highly regarded.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively instruct, inspire, and support a diverse student cohort.
- Demonstrated commitment to educational excellence, student development, and professional growth within the accounting field.
- Ability to contribute to applied research, curriculum innovation, or community engagement related to accounting and financial practices.
- Collaborative approach and proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and culturally diverse teams.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic is valued.

- Working Days & Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 9am - 5pm.
